![]() ![]() ![]() For some reason, the white wire seemed to be a little bit active, and it would spark if it came into contact with the metal box. ![]() But I’ve measured both wires using a multimeter when the breakers were all on, and the reading never came anywhere close to 120 volts. Ideally, if the 12/2 Romex that’s already fed through the switch box was an active power source, then I’d just splice it with some more 12/2 Romex and feed the new 12/2 up through the attic into the ceiling fan fixture. There is also a ground wire which was just poorly tucked into the bottom…I guess because whoever did it knew the switch was to be dead anyway. If I knew for sure it was a single pole switch than I would just assume they are both hot wires. When I opened the switch, there was a black and white wire. It’s an old house so maybe it used to do something else. It’s hard to say for sure because the switch seems to serve no purpose. In this room, there is presumably a single pole switch. But in this case it doesn’t make much of a difference. I’m thinking about installing a light in a room with no pre-existing light fixtures. I am still a DIYer, but I plan on becoming an electrician soon. ![]()
